  • OVERVIEW*

At Wells Fargo, we have one goal: to satisfy our customers’ financial needs and help them achieve their dreams. We’re looking for talented people who will put our customers at the center of everything we do. Join our diverse and inclusive team where you’ll feel valued and inspired to contribute your unique skills and experience.

Help us build a better Wells Fargo. It all begins with outstanding talent. It all begins with you.

Wholesale Banking provides financial solutions to businesses across the United States and globally. Our nine major business lines include Business Banking, Middle Market Banking, Government and Institutional Banking, Corporate Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Financial Institutions Group, Wells Fargo Commercial Capital, Wells Fargo Securities, and the Investment Portfolio. We also have groups in credit risk, group risk, finance, marketing, human relations, and the Wholesale Chief Operating Office that support our businesses.

Explore a lending career with Wells Fargo while building the professional skills and network to take you further by joining the Financial Analyst Program (FAP). Throughout the program you will take part in exclusive training and networking opportunities that will develop your credit understanding, and professional skills.

During the program, you’ll become part of a lending office in one of the following groups based on your preference, and the needs of the business. The structure of the program varies by business group. Additional information will be provided during the application and interview process:

  • Corporate Banking works with some of the largest, most well-known companies in the U.S. with revenues exceeding $500 million

  • Commercial Real Estate provides financing to commercial real estate owners, developers, and investors

  • Government & Institutional Banking works with government entities and education, non-profit, and healthcare institutions

  • Middle Market Banking works with mid-sized companies in all industries with revenue between $20 - $500 million

  • Commercial Capital provides tailored, market-specific financing

  • Wholesale Risk provides general oversight to the Wholesale Banking loan portfolio and offers line of business-specific guidance

While there, you will evaluate the financial, operational, and managerial strengths and weaknesses of our clients and learn how those factors drive lending decisions. You will also work with relationship managers to structure large, often complex deals, and help prepare client presentation materials.

Once you have completed the program, you will be ready to step into a credit analyst, relationship manager, or portfolio manager role. Select candidates will be chosen to participate in the Credit Management Training Program (CMTP), an intensive classroom-based program that will accelerate your development

RESPONSIBILITIES

Based on your assigned business line, your responsibilities may include:

  • Analyzing a company's financial, operational, and management strengths and weaknesses to identify potential capital, balance sheet, and reputation risks

  • Identifying credit issues early in the underwriting process and recommending ways to reduce exposure

  • Partnering with relationship managers to structure multimillion- and multi-billion dollar transactions

  • Preparing annual company financial reviews and underwriting memos focused on a company's leverage, key risk factors, repayment sources, cash flow, and ability to service debt

  • Reviewing and assisting in the negotiation of loan agreements and ancillary documents related to a transaction closing

  • Understanding client needs and identifying other Wells Fargo products and services that can help clients achieve their goals

  • Tracking the ongoing financial performance of individual properties within the loan portfolio, comparing the actual performance to underwritten, appraised and borrower's projections ensuring loan and guarantor covenants are monitored

  • Participating in property tours and site visits to develop a deeper understanding of the viability of the real estate and the related transaction

  • Analyzing government entities (states, local governments, and utilities) and nonprofit organizations that include hospitals, schools, social service agencies, museums, and performing arts institutions

  • Partnering with public finance analysts to build clients' debt profiles

  • Participating in property tours and site visits to develop a deeper understanding of the viability of the real estate and the related transaction

  • Spreading financial statements and assessing the client's compliance with financial covenants

  • Preparing or reviewing enterprise valuations and discounted cash flow analyses on clients (only in select business units)

  • Investigating creditor rights and legal ramifications in a potential restructure, and assisting with periodic re-underwriting, credit recommendations, collection of legal documentation, and credit post-restructure monitoring

YOUR NEXT STEP

After the program, you will be ready to step into one of the following roles:

  • Credit analyst: Evaluate clients and their businesses to determine the best financing structure for both the client and the bank

  • Relationship manager: Manage client relationships by working with a company's business principals to understand their short-term and long-term needs, and structure the financing and banking products that help them achieve their goals

  • Portfolio manager: Oversee the loan portfolio for an office or line of business

  • Credit Management Training Program (CMTP): Select candidates will be chosen to participate in an intensive classroom-based program that will accelerate development and build on the fundamental credit training you receive during the Financial Analyst Program. Using case studies and real-life scenarios, the program covers the various ways Wholesale Banking lending groups approach credit underwriting and risk management. Often thought of as an "internal MBA" in credit, CMTP is held in San Francisco and taught by Wells Fargo leaders, credit instructors, and training professionals. After completing CMTP, you may either return to your original office in a more senior credit-related position or take a credit position with another Wholesale Banking business, depending on need and mutual interest.
